Activity: Participating in or organising an eventParticipation in an academic conference, workshop or symposium

Description

For this workshop we invite the audience to engage with a short, creative listening task. This will be a means for the audience to experience a version of musical ‘conducting’ for themselves, based on an accessible visual mark-making exercise.

This simple, easy-to-follow task sets up a panel discussion which will explore the multimodal dimensions of listening. We will ask, “What is at stake in deep listening?” (Bull and Back, 2015):

– Sound makes us re-think our relational experiences, how we relate to others, ourselves and the spaces and places we inhabit

– Sound makes us re-think our relationship to the other senses and to embodiment itself
