Biography

Alison is a Flute tutor at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.

Hailing originally from Melbourne, Alison Mitchell was appointed Principal Flute with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra in 2003.

Since leaving Australia to continue her studies in Basle with renowned flautist Peter-Lukas Graf she has maintained a very successful career between Europe and Australia playing with many major orchestras on both continents .

Alison performs and records regularly with SCO chamber ensembles and as a concerto soloist. Her performances have included concertos by Mozart, Bach, Poulenc, Osborne, Cimarosa and Honegger. Alison’s recording of Mozart’s Flute Concerto in G major with the SCO was released in 2006 on Linn records receiving glowing reviews.

Alison also has a continuing relationship with the Australian Chamber Orchestra as Guest Principal and tours with them regularly. She performed with Angela Hewitt and ACO in the award winning recordings of Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto no. 5 and the Triple Concerto for flute, violin and piano.

Alongside her busy SCO schedule Alison performs as a recitalist and chamber musician as well as lecturing in Flute at the Conservatoire.

Alison also gives specialist woodwind coaching and has worked closely together with many youth orchestras and ensembles from namely, the Australian Youth Orchestra and National Music Camps, the Australian National Academy, the Sydney Conservatorium and the National Youth Orchestra of Scotland. Alison will also be on the faculty of the Baltic Youth Philharmonic conducted by Kristjan Jarvi for their 2009 concert season.
