Drew was born and raised in Central Kentucky. He gained a Bachelor of Arts degree with a piano performance major from Guilford College in North Carolina, where he began his performing career in a number of regional and national touring ensembles.
In 2000, he moved to Boston, Massachusetts, where he met the composer Bill Sweeney who (in part) convinced him to move to Glasgow. Under Bill’s supervision, Drew obtained a Doctorate in composition from Glasgow University in 2009. He has been working at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland since 2008.
Drew’s professional, composition and research interests include acousmatic music, studio recording, musical algorithms and the natural world, Charles Ives and musical transcendentalism, the music of Franco Donatoni, and jazz.
