Personal profile

Biography

Maria Braender is an interdisciplinary artist working in the medium of sound/performance/live art. Currently, she is undertaking a part-time practice based PhD at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland; exploring and manifesting the ideas of radical environmental philosophy through multi-sensory performance (and/or installation) experiences for audiences.

The tentative title of Braender's PhD project is:

Eco-queer world making: sensitizing and performing with (more-than-humxn) multi-perspectivity. Braender seeks to challenge dichotomies of human/nature and self/world: to think (and attend to) that which is beyond the human.

Her practice-as-research methodology has a particular focus on sonic investigations and out-puts through an experimental, transdisciplinary and collaborative approach.

Currently, she is working together with marine biologists from the Scottish Association of Marine Science on a project about zooplankton. This project will culminate with a performance installation in Brønshøj Water Tower, in Copenhagen.

She is also Guest Researcher and sound artist at the Medical Museion, in Copenhagen. The Medical Museion is a university museum where museology meets interdisciplinary research. Here Braender is involved with The Living Room which is a project that makes the invisible practices of preservation visible (and audible!) by engaging with metabolic processes across the organic/inorganic divide.
