Ray Tallan has an HND in Television Operation and Production as well as a PGCert Learning and Teaching in Higher Arts Education. Ray has completed his Reducation training with RED in Los Angeles and has implemented the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland’s transition into HD with the acquisition of the RED Epic. Ray also conducts all DSLR training at RCS. He has experience in working on 16mm, SD, HD and, for the last three years, the RED One, RED EPIC and 5D. Ray has over 10 years experience in Screen, working on various projects such as Music Promos, Broadcast, Documentaries and Short Form Drama.
Ray has been in charge of the Camera Department at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland for the past four years overseeing cinematography training. As the full-time Lecturer in Cinematography, Ray works on the Screen Craft Module from early class room sessions to mentoring and facilitating the final year students on showcase productions. He also continues his freelance work, last year shooting a film for Channel 4 with renowned choreographer and dancer Clare Cunningham, for award-winning director Dale Corlett as well as a handful of Music Promos. Ray is also a director on the board of GMAC (Glasgow Media Access Centre) Film.
Ray’s recent projects include the award-winning short film Laid Off, Cinematographer; Independent Short The Things We Do, Raindance Film Festival 2012; Oh Jackie – a short music drama for Louise Quinn, shortlisted for Best Scottish Short at the Glasgow Short Film Festival 2013; Is it Just Me, Channel 4, Cinematographer; Black and White, David Gillanders’ BBC, Cinematographer; and Don’t Call me Sparky, Director/Editor. He has worked with Sharleen Spiteri, Mark Millar and Academy Award nominee Seamus McGarvey to name a few.
