Bawdy: For six accordions and electronics

Research output: Performances, compositions and other non-textual formsComposition

Details

Bawdy songs emphasise sexual themes and were often sung by men while drinking. This piece samples the bawdy song “She Was A Rum One” sung by Jeannie Robertson, a well-known Scottish folk singer. It also samples an interview with Robertson and archivist Alan Lomax in which they discuss the portrayal of women and sex in “She Was A Rum One”. Through editing the original recordings of Robertson and bringing them into a live conversation with the accordions, Bawdy explores the subject object dynamics between singer and instrument, man and woman, present and past.
