Salsa and Mambo
Mambo is a word used to describe a specific instrumental section of Afro-Caribbean arrangements. In the melting pot of 1950's Harlem in New York, the 'Latinos' met the 'Jazzers' and the Mambo became a form in its own right with groups mixing Be-Bop lines and Afro-Caribbean 'Tumbao' giving birth to one of the most successful cross breed styles in history. The intricate lines against the fiery percussion and syncopated rhythm section make this one of the most infectious grooves in jazz.
