Clan Chieftain Sir John Macgregor Murray: Compulsive Record-Keeper and Custodian of Highland Heritage

Research output: Contributions to journalsArticlepeer-review

Details

Sir John Macgregor Murray provided song-collector Alexander Campbell with an itinerary and list of suggested contacts when  the latter was on his way to collect materials for Albyn's Anthology.  He was also the individual who brought Joseph Macdonald's piping treatise back to Britain from India.  It emerges that his engagement with Highland culture was far more extensive than this, and is in consistent with his enthusiasm for record-keeping in the East India Company during his military career there.
