Details

A composition commissioned by the One World, One Music concert series in Germany, hosted by Ensemble Musikus Diestedde and in celebration of the 70-year diplomatic ties between the Philippines and Germany. This initiative aimed to bridge cultures through choral music.

This composition weaves two pastoral texts from distinct linguistic and cultural traditions: the Tagalog paraphrase, by Rev Fr Lito Magnaye, and the German rendering from Augsburg 1531. Musically, the piece alternates and intertwines the two texts, allowing their melodic lines and harmonies to converse, sometimes flowing gently like still waters. The aleatoric passages suggest the free-flowing qualities of nature. By blending these traditions, I explore the universal and transcendent qualities of the shepherd’s care, celebrating both unity and diversity in the expression of faith.
