Details

My research focusses on the use of real time spectrographic data in the choral rehearsal.
In order to explore using this technology in real world rehearsal situations, I will interview current choral directors in order to come to an acoustical definition of the phenomenon of ‘choral blend’.
I will also interview choral singers in order to understand how they alter their vocal output in order to fascilitate ‘choral blend’.
From this information, gathered using spectrographic data, I will be able to develop a new rehearsal technique, grounded in vocal science, that will go some way towards bridging the gap between soloistic vocal pedagogy and that of choral directors.
