Masterclass 4: In practice ...

Engagement activity: External performance, talk or presentationTalk for a mainly non-academic audience (e.g. for the general public, community or industry)

Laura Gonzalez (Invited speaker), 6 Dec 2017

I will introduce my work as a performance artist with a Fine Art background. I will explore six thematic strands in my work, providing visual examples that have inspired me to create inter-disciplinary pieces involving text, voice, dance, performance and video. The themes include reading and writing practices, working with oneself, obsessions and possessions, self care in performance and personal work as political. Rather than a theoretical exploration of these topics, the master class will provide visual stimulus and practical methodologies for participants to create their own work with awareness of a variety of contexts. For National Xarts Xchange 2017 programme, Three performance teams have been selected by Busan Cultural Foundation to join this programme from South Korea and ten students (Digital Art, Performance, Technical Theatre) from the UWS will join this as collaborators. All Rounderz (Street Dance) Heung (Korean Traditional Music) JDC&Next (Korean Traditional Dance) The key objective of this programme is to share diverse views and experiences with our participants in exploring what the process of making entails in the context of cross-cultural and cross-art forms. Each group will form enhanced groups with the UWS students and devise a short performance piece to be performed on 11th December.
