Michael Howell

Biography

Michael is the Programme Coordinator for both BA and MA Musical Theatre at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in Glasgow, combining experience as a pedagogue, director and voice coach.

Michael originally trained at the Royal Academy of Music, graduating in 1999. Following completion of his studies Michael worked extensively in theatre, musical theatre, film, television and radio before returning to Scotland to continue his performance career while developing his teaching skills in arts education. Michael joined the Royal Conservatoire Of Scotland as a Lecturer in Musical Theatre in 2009, becoming the Programme Coordinator in 2014.

Michael has directed a range of commercial projects, provided masterclasses (both in the UK and Europe) and has a particular interest in developing/directing devised theatre projects. At RCS his project credits include The Laramie ProjectThe Last days of Judas IscariotSwingin’ into ChristmasNotes to Self and Towards the Moon (Edinburgh Festival). As Associate Director and providing Voice Support his work has included CompanySunday in the Park with GeorgeSpring AwakeningAvenue QTommyCarousel and Jerry Springer the Opera. Michael has directed productions/devised work and masterclasses at the University of Gothenburg, the Brussels Conservatoire and Lucia Marthas Dansacademie in Amsterdam.
