About

This is an example of a digital release sharing new insights. As a reference recording of significant but little-known works it helps to maintain and develop the scholarly infrastructure for chamber music performance. The researcher is the pianist in these world premiere recordings featuring the chamber music of the largely forgotten Swiss composer Volkmar Andreae (1879-1962).In this release, the researcher is the soloist on tracks 5-10 (6 Piano Pieces for 2 Hands Op. 20) and is the pianist on tracks 14-16 (Violin Sonata in D major Op. 4). While Op. 20 has been recorded once before, it is unpublished, and the researcher worked from the composer’s manuscript; this is the world premiere recording of the Violin Sonata. This CD is one in a series of releases by Guild that has led to a revival of interest in Andreae’s music after several generations of neglect, and attracted considerable attention in the international music press. The impact of this larger project in promoting Andreae’s music and providing a reference recording that would be widely disseminated is reflected in reviews that followed the CD’s release, and its receiving the International Record Review ‘Outstanding’ accolade.
