About

This is an example of a digital release sharing new insights. As a reference recording of significant but little-known works it helps to maintain and develop the scholarly infrastructure for piano performance. The researcher is the pianist in this world premiere recordings of the concertante music for piano of the largely forgotten Swiss composer Volkmar Andreae (1879-1962).In this release, the researcher is the soloist on tracks 1-4 (Piano Concerto in D and Konzertstück in B minor for Piano and Orchestra, both unpublished). The researcher worked from the composer’s manuscripts in preparing his performance and his interpretation gains additional authority through his collaboration with the composer’s grandson, who conducts the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra in these recordings. This CD is one in a series of releases that by Guild has led to a revival of interest in Andreae’s music after several generations of neglect, and attracted considerable attention in the international music press. The impact of this larger project in promoting Andreae’s music and providing a reference recording that would be widely disseminated is reflected in reviews that have followed these releases. In the present release, Pavri’s contribution is also specifically recognised: 'The four works … are given the best possible advocacy’ (Classical CD Choice)This output extends Pavri’s earlier work with Andreae’s Chamber Music (see Pavri1) and is itself extended in his recording with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra of other concertante works by Swiss composers: Ernst Widmer’s Piano Concerto Op. 160. and Adolf Brunner’s Partita for Piano and Orchestra (Pavri 3).
