Biography

Award-winning director Flavia D’Avila is originally from Brazil and has been living and working in Edinburgh since 2006. Flavia has specialised in theatre anthropology, devised theatre, new writing, and transcultural theatre.

Flavia founded Fronteiras Theatre Lab in Edinburgh in 2011, focusing on international collaborations and multicultural/multilingual work. Recent directing credits include Theatre Tasters (2012); Fronteiras Explorers (2013); La Niña Barro (2014); Volante (2016). Flavia is a Review Editor of the Scottish Journal of Performance and is currently doing her PhD at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and University of St Andrews, researching syncretic theatre and devising.
