Mark Hathaway

Mark Hathaway is a Lecturer in the Opera and Vocal Studies departments at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. He directed a double bill of Dido and Aeneas and Les Mamelles de Tirésias in March 2015, Il ritorno d’Ulisse in November 2013, L’incoronazione di Poppea in November 2012, The Rape of Lucretia in March 2012 and Le nozze di Figaro in June 2010. Mark has directed many sets of opera scenes at RCS, as well as at the National Opera Studio, Guildhall School of Music and Drama, and the Royal Academy of Music.

For Scottish Opera, Mark directed two operas for children by Julian Evans: The Minotaur and The Mystic Maiden of Loch Katrine, and was Assistant Director on all four operas in Wagner’s Ring Cycle directed by Tim Albery, as well as productions of Don Giovanni, La Traviata, Orfeo ed Euridice, Bluebeard’s Castle, Erwartung, Semele, Tamerlano, Fidelio, The Death of Klinghoffer, A Night at the Chinese Opera, and The Secret Marriage.

In August 2012 Mark directed A Tapestry of Many Threads by Tom Cunningham and Alexander McCall Smith at the Dovecot Weaving Studios as part of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. The production won a Herald Angel and was nominated for a Fringe First Award.
