Nigel Boddice
Professional highlights
Nigel Boddice MBE, Hon. ARAM is the former principal trumpet of the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra. A position held for twenty years [75-95]. Hghlights included solo appearances at the Henry Wood Promenade concerts, chamber work and leading the BBCSSO Brass Ensemble.
For his special association with the young brass musicians of West Lothian, he accepted the inaugural presentation of the Mortimer Medal from the Worshipful Company of Musicians in London and for his prolific presentation of contemporary music he was honoured by the Scottish Composers Society. In recognition of his input and work with the youth of Scotland generally, and West Lothian in particular, Nigel was awarded the MBE in the 2005 Queen’s Birthday Honours List.
Teaching commitments
For the last few years Nigel has combined teaching duties at the RCS with a multitude of engagements conducting bands, youth orchestras and ensembles of every variance, giving him a strong repertoire in several mediums. Appointments in the wind band world have included Chief Conductor KNMM, NYWES as well as guest appearances worldwide. From this background there has been a natural progression towards adjudicating and examining, for example in New Zealand, Australia, throughout Europe, plus the four corners of the U.K.
