Timothy Cooper

Part Time Lecturer (Music Technology)

Biography

I am a composer and performer of electroacoustic music. I currently lecture in music technology. Between 2010 and 2016 I worked with Edit-Point, then Scotland's only regularly performing group dedicated to electroacoustic music.

Research interests

I am in the second year of a part time PhD in composition. I am interested in the context that I work in. In finding new ways to present and articulate my work as a composer. Much of my work is collaborative and working with other artists allows me to explore a variety of presentation modes.

Recent and current projects include:

  • Mechanical - An interactive installation exploring the sound and vision of old, worn and broken bicycles and bike bits. This work was presented by Cryptic at the CCA in Glasgow in September 2016. It has been selected for BEAST FEaST 2017 subject to the festival finding and appropriate presentation space.
  • New work for tuba and electronics - This piece, that is being composed for Danielle Price, is exploring multi-channel live electronics
  • New work exploring sea sounds and sea words - RCS colleague Laura Bissell and I have been exploring the relationships between her practice as a writer and my practice as a composer in the context of her major research project The Sea, The Sea, The Sea.
  • New Audio-Visual installation - a collaborative work with painter/calligrapher Susie Leiper and poet Samuel Tongue. Beginning this project was made possible by a Jerwood Residency at Cove Park. We are very grateful to the Cove Park and the Jerwood Foundation for their very kind support of this project.
