Glasgow rejoices in the self-appointed title of Cinema City. Dr Andy Dougan outlines his work which is the first city-level study of audience development in Glasgow. It considers disparate factors such as class, technology, gender, economic theory, and – most important – local and national regulation played their part in creating that abiding connection between a new medium and its audience
