Stephen West

Biography

Stephen began his musical education at Canterbury Cathedral and then Guildford Cathedral where he was head chorister. He graduated from the Royal College of Music in 1984 and was principal Cor Anglais and Oboe with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra from 1986 – 2005.

Stephen has played with most of the British Symphony and Chamber orchestras and has given masterclasses and solo recitals in the UK and abroad.

Teaching commitments

Stephen is an Oboe and Cor Anglais tutor at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.

Since leaving the RSNO, Stephen has become a full-time teacher and his roles in the Conservatoire include coaching chamber music, taking performance classes, orchestral sectionals and lecturing in the techniques of teaching. He is focused, motivated and devoted to getting the very best out of each and every student, many of whom can be found playing in professional Orchestras across the country.
