Alison is a Bassoon tutor at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.
Alison Green studied bassoon at the Conservatoire (formally the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama) with Edgar Williams, gaining the DipMusEd and DRSAM (perf) qualifications. She also won the Governors’ Recital Prize for Woodwind. On completing her studies in Glasgow, she went on to study for a year at the Conservatoire de Musique in Geneva with Roger Birnstingl. While in Switzerland she was often invited to play with local orchestras.
On her return to Scotland, she spent several years freelancing with all the Scottish Orchestras, also with the Ulster Orchestra and London Festival Ballet Orchestra. In 1990, she joined the Scottish Chamber Orchestra as second bassoon. The position, which she holds today. She enjoys the variety of work offered in the SCO, including the excellent education programme, which the SCO runs. One of the most well known education projects is ‘The Bear Hunt’ and Alison is a member of the wind trio who visit primary schools, work creatively with the children and perform ‘The Bear Hunt’ for their friends and parents. The project is based on the book by Michael Rosen with music composed by Alec Roth.
Alison enjoys her involvement with the students of the Conservatoire, both teaching and coaching chamber music.
